Body -based

Scene Study

at Michael Howard Studios

Ongoing

BODY-BASED ACTING TRAINING + SCENE WORK

On-going Scene Study Classes are a NYC tradition for professional actors, allowing actors to deepen craft, stay in shape between jobs, and create an artistic home base.

This scene study is unique because it marries traditional scene work with body-based tools to hone the actor’s full mind/body/voice self.

Ellie’s approach unifies an actor’s mind and body through an integration of Meisner, Michael Chekhov, and mind/body release work. (If you have experience with these techniques, please be open to surprise! Ellie offers a very specific and unique version. It may be quite different.)

The environment is supportive and a place where playfulness and exploration meets rigor and ambition. We come together to do brave work and foster an artistic community.

What people are saying:

“This is the most comfortable and safe I’ve felt in acting class…ever?!? I left with tangible tools I’m really looking forward to using!”

— Ariella Serur, 1776 Broadway Company

“Many times the actor's life can feel like being stuck in suspended animation. Ellie's workshop was an artistic defibrillation, shocking my energetic body and physical instrument back into the normal rhythm of a creative artist in flow. I left with tangible skills to apply toward audition preparation and character development, but more importantly a confidence in using those tools for my personal process. If it isn't clear by now, I highly recommend Ellie's somatic workshop. You might just end up remembering that our work is actually play.”

— Philip Stoddard,  Recent Juilliard’s Drama Division Grad

“I was feeling so disconnected from my body when I walked in! Ellie is such a transformative teacher, you really believe her encouragement and her genuine excitement at witnessing personal growth. I felt a real spiritual change after Ellie's workshop as an artist and a person, more connected to my core practice, and feeling more in touch with the root of my voice.”

— Gracie Gardner, Actor and Playwright, Relentless Award, I’m Revolting at The Atlantic Theater
